Anna Tonkin

Death Notice

TONKIN, Anna (Ann) - died suddenly at home on August 17, 2017 in her 88th year. Loving mother of Susan (Richard Worsfold) and the late Patricia Jobb (Wayne), Ann is fondly remembered by her sister Mary Lariviere, as well as by nephew and niece Alan and Arlene Cimprich and all who knew her.

Ann was born a New Year's baby in Fort William, Ontario, in 1930. Her father worked for CN and Ann and her family were raised in South Junction, Manitoba near the Minnesota border. In the 1940s, the family moved to Simcoe, Ontario and Ann enrolled in nursing school at St. Joseph's in Hamilton, where she graduated in 1952.

Unquestionably, Ann was born to be a nurse. Her tremendous compassion, integrity, efficiency and good humour put all at ease.

In 1957, Ann married and in 1962 she and her family moved to London, Ontario. She joined St. Joseph's Hospital where she went on to become the head of one of the first surgical daycare units in Ontario, the position she held when she retired in 1992.

Throughout her retirement, Ann continued to pursue her love of gardening, volunteering, travelling and spending time with family and friends. The friends she had made at nursing school and throughout her career were friends for life.

Ann enjoyed lively conversation, theatre, bridge and good company. Her determination, spirit and generosity will be fondly remembered.

Cremation has taken place and in keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to remember Ann by making a contribution could benefit the CNIB or the Lung Association, two of her favourite charities.
