J. Stanley Hill

Death Notice

After a courageous battle with cancer, Stan Hill passed away quietly in his sleep at St. Joseph's Hospice on Monday November 6 in his 89th year.

Beloved husband and best friend of Muriel for 62 years. Father of Lesley (David) Mounteer and Alastair (Nicole) Hill. Loving grandfather to Megan Mounteer and Jenna and Griffin Hill.

Stan was a Professor Emeritus at Western University after a distinguished career as a health educator from 1968 to 1994. He was honoured in 2007 by his Alma Mater with the Dr. Ivan Smith Award for his significant contributions.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Stan and Muriel emigrated to Montreal in 1959 where he worked at the YMYW/HA as Recreation Director. In 1966, they came to London so Stan could pursue a Masters in Physical Education at Western. Stan also held a PhD from The Ohio State University.

Always active in the community, he was a proud member of Forest City Kiwanis and delivered Meals on Wheels. He spent many years with the London and Middlesex Lung Association and the Canadian Lung Association and was President of the Ontario Lung Association.

He was a long time member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club. Stan enjoyed summers on the Bruce at 'Scotch on the Rocks', the family cottage on Jackson Cove, where he enjoyed boating and sailing.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday November 19 at 2:00 pm at First-St Andrew's United Church, 350 Queens Ave. Visitation will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Saturday November 18 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Special thanks to Dr. Stack for his care, attention and many visits, to Dr. Hamilton and the CCAC Palliative Care team and to St. Joseph's Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the J Stanley and Muriel C Hill Scholarship in Kinesiology at Western University or donations to the London and Middlesex Lung Association, would be appreciated.

As an advocate and promoter of research, Stan gave the ultimate gift by donating his body to the School of Anatomy at Western.
