Mary (Mhairi) Glennie

Death Notice

GLENNIE, Mary (Mhairi) Bethune - It is with deep sorrow that her family announces her passing on Christmas Eve in her 92nd year. Survived by her husband Dr. GD Glennie, son St. John, daughters Valda, Michelle and grandchildren Elodie, Cédric, Keithan, Jnae.

Mhairi was born on the Isle of Bute in Scotland, August 3rd 1925. The daughter of Ray and John “The Boatbuilder” Edmiston, she grew up in Glasgow with her three brothers John, David and Alan. She completed her nursing training at Glasgow Western Hospital, working at Hammersmith Hospital in London England before accepting a position at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Bermuda. She continued to travel to Canada and worked at the Hamilton General Hospital and Montreal's Royal Vic before settling in London, Ontario to start her family.

Mhairi was a caring, compassionate nurse, mother and friend who recognized and encouraged the creative potential in others. She had a great love for dogs and was inseparable from her loyal companion Leo. She will always be remembered for her strength of character and determination. She is greatly missed.

Visitation on Thursday January 11, from 2-4 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London (519) 433-7253. A private family religious service has taken place at Mhairi's home in London, Ontario. A memorial celebration of Mhairi's life will be held in the summer, on her birthday. Memorial donations to the Toronto Humane Society or Salthaven Rehabilitation & Education Centre would be appreciated.
