John Richard Allen
With deep sorrow we announce that John passed away surrounded by family on Monday, October 29, 2018 in his 88th year. He was pre-deceased earlier this year by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Jane “Molly” Allen. John was father to Tom Allen, Sharon Cummings (Kevin Cummings) and Lisa Allen (Greg Lee). He will be greatly missed by his grand-children Nicholas and Kelsey Cummings, Sean Allen and step-grandchildren Skylar, Sasha (Colin Campbell) and Shelby Lee. He lived to meet his step great grand-daughter Charlotte Lee-Campbell. His many nieces and nephews will fondly remember the times they had to share with him.
John was born in Shefford, England on the 25th of July 1930. In his childhood, he travelled with his parents, living in India, Egypt, Jerusalem and South Africa, and later with the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during his national service to Malta. He immigrated to Canada in 1954, living in Toronto, Kingston, Montreal, Richmond Hill and finally London. He had a long career with CIL/ICI where he introduced major innovations in packaging, retiring in 1992, from his role as Packaging Manager and Compliance for the Explosives Division.
He was an avid photographer, a ringer on the shuffleboard court, a fine dancer and an expert gardener. His greatest accomplishment was his steadfast devotion to Molly and the family.
The family would like to extent their gratitude to the staff at Westmount Gardens, where he spent his last few months, for the support and care they provided to him every day.
John will be interred by Molly’s side at GlenHaven Memorial Gardens, Glenburnie. A celebration of his life will be held with friends and family at a date to be determined in the near future.
