Death Notice

GUMMOW, Wilma - After a long and happy life, Wilma Gummow (nee Watson) died peacefully at home with family by her side at Oneida Long Term Care on June 10, 2020.

Beloved wife of the late John Gummow (1987). Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother of Katharine (Rick) Barnes, Matthew (Taryn) Barnes, Ellie and Liam Barnes, Danielle (Sean) Kennelly, Abraham, Joseff and Micah Kennelly, Elizabeth (Hans) van Zandvoort, Melissa Facey-Crowther, Zachary and Jacob Facey-Crowther and Mark (Sarah Subhan) van Zandvoort, Victoria and Joshua van Zandvoort. Predeceased by great granddaughter Sabrina van Zandvoort (2017). Loving sister of Jack (Jean) Watson. Predeceased by brother Edward (the late Joan Watson). Sister-in-law of Joseph Gummow (the late Betty), the late Wilma and George Maddess, and the late Wilda and Lorne Rennick. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Her keen intellect, sharp wit, and boundless energy will be greatly missed not only by her family but by her many friends. Born on April 26, 1922 in Blyth, Ontario she went to Normal School in Stratford. She taught in one room schools and eventually became Principal of Kensal Park Public School in London. She gladly gave up her career to have a family and move throughout south western Ontario with soulmate, John (Jack) as he furthered his career in education. Wilma was a lifelong Anglican. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over fifty years.
