Alexander Jefferies

Death Notice

JEFFERIES, Alexander (Al) - Peacefully at University Hospital on Saturday, June 20, 2020, Alexander Jefferies of London age 88. Al had a full and happy life with his soul mate and wife of 63 years, Anna Maria; his children, Maria Jefferies of London, Nina Karigan (Spiro) in Texas, and John Jefferies (Susan) in California; his grandchildren Anthony, Paul, Alexandra, John, Alexander and Tessa; and great-grandchildren Anna and Elias. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters Katharyn and Nicholetta.

Al excelled in sports. He was a gifted athlete, starring as a Golden Ghost at Central Collegiate and as an original member of the London Lords semi pro football club. He was a life member of the London Squash and Racquets Club. Al also enjoyed sailing, tennis, golf, and trap shooting at the London Hunt Club.

Music was also an important part of his life. Al was an original member of the Shriners Oriental Band and performed with the Shriners Concert Band. He was also a member of New Horizons Band at Western University.

As a restaurateur, Al owned and operated The Lounge Restaurant and Tavern in downtown London and Cobblestone Inn in Byron. He was Past President of the Canadian Restaurant Association, London. He was involved in all aspects of Commercial Real Estate, as a developer, investor and in sales. He was Past Director of the Regional Commercial Council and President of Pelion Buildings London, which owned many buildings in the core area.

Active in the community, he was a past member of the downtown Rotary Club of London and a Charter Member of the Grand Bend Rotary Club. He also served as director on many boards including the Small Business Centre, Canadian Red Cross Honorary Council, Western Fair Board, and the Canadian Club. He was a Life and Honorary Member of the Mocha Shrine and St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge 107, Scottish Rite and York Rite.
