HEIGHWAY, Robert “Bob” “Reg” - Passed away peacefully on June 28, 2021 at Victoria Hospital, Robert “Bob” “Reg” Heighway of London, age 83.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Jane “Midge” (nee Thompson); his children, Tom (Jill) and Sara (Chris Baillie) and his grandchildren Annika, Campbell, Liam and Jacob.
Bob was born in Arva to Reginald and Jennie (nee Auty). Bob is predeceased by his older siblings; Don, Bruce and Mary Jane Winterton.
Bob attended South C.I. and was a gifted athlete and football star. Bob continued his studies in Engineering at the Haileybury School of Mines, followed by a career which was highlighted by over 20 years at General Motors.
He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family both here in London and in Halifax, NS, especially with his grandchildren. Bob lived a full and active life filled with cherished friendships both new and old. Bob was always generous with a joke, time for a story or a chat, fixing what might be broken or a libation.
Bob had a kind word to say to everyone whether that be a coworker, a neighbour, a friend, or a stranger and everyone in between.
A private family service will be held at Harris Funeral Home and after restrictions ease, we hope to be joined by family and friends for a celebration of Bob’s life.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation on Bob’s behalf to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Easter Seals.
Bob will always live on in the hearts and minds of his loving family and friends.

Tom and Sara and Mrs Heighway: We are so sad to hear of the loss of your father and husband. Mr. Heighway was such a wonderful man, full of love, life, joy, energy and laughter. When ever I would run into he and your mom...I would leave the conversation beaming and wanting to share more time with them. He was undoubtedly extremely proud of the people you have become, Tom and Sara, and I cant imagine a more fitting and lovely life partner than your mom.
Please know the Peever family shares in your sorrow and we will always recall fond memories of your dad with more huge smiles on our faces.

Dear Midge, Tom and Sarah, Bobs obit in the LFP came as a shock. Our memories of him and all of you cover many years. For Carole (Ames), school days in the 50s at South, for us both, CISV and social occasions, for me, as a staff member at South when you were there as students, Tom and Sarah. Tom, we enjoy hearing of you through Geoff Ralph (our godson). Most recently, Midge, we enjoyed meeting you and Bob last summer on the patio at River Bend. We send you our sympathy and wish we could be there with you. Bob and Carole Anderson

Midge, Sarah and Tom- I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Iroquois Ave just will not be the same! I will never forget his kindness to me and support throughout my childhood and was thrilled that my nieces were also able to benefit from his warm and encouraging smile and generous spirit. Every young boy has someone in his life to whom he looks for a role model and mentor. Bob Heighway was both for me. He was my Pee Wee baseball coach and, as an outstanding football player at South, he always had both a smile and time for those who admired him so much. It is difficult to say goodbye to someone who had such a profound influence on me but wonderful memories of the man who was Bob Heighway will be of great comfort. Bob was devoted to his wife Midge and their children, Tom and Sara and, of course, his grandchildren. My wife, Heather and I offer our most sincere to condolences to the family he loved so much. Thank you, Bob, for being you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob and Tom on the annual golf trips to PEI and then Midge when Bob had some issues and was in the hospital here in Halifax a few years ago. Absolute wonderful family. I thought the world of Bob and will miss him tremendously.

Our sincere condolences to Midge and family. A good friend and neighbour for many years, Bob was truly a gift to everyone he met. Always with a smile and a joke and always so happy to greet you. I thought of Bob as a role model, a real gentleman. Bob was an inspiration; a humble, family man who was an example of what a man should be. Bob, you will be missed.

We are very sorry and saddened to learn of Bobs passing. He was the first one to welcome us to the street back in 1981. From then on we referred to him as Good Neighbour Bob. He always had a big smile and wave whenever we drove or walked past. His conversations were always positive, informative and usually amusing. Bob will be missed.

To Midge and your family. It is with sadness that we learned today of Bob’s passing. He would always wave as we turned the corner to Devonshire Ave. I enjoyed his many conversations we had over the 30 years since lived on the street. He was ever joyful and did love to have a conversation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Midge as this time. Love and hugs Anne and Keith.
