Obituary

ELLINSON, Alexander (Al)

“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you” … Winnie the Pooh

Fate disagreed and Al passed away in the comfort of his home at the age of 90 on February 21st 2019 in the arms of his sweetheart Riva who is left behind with wonderful memories of their 71 years together. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Riva-Jane and son-in-law Zig, who were there to bid him a loving farewell on his final journey.

Al was born in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland on February 15th 1929, married Riva in 1950 and together with their two bairns, arrived in Canada in 1954. Al rose through the ranks of a major London company but after 17 years, his entrepreneurial instincts kicked in, starting several businesses, the most successful being Serendipity a popular store in London. Al retired in 1997, and with Riva, took up golf and travelled extensively.

Al was an ethical man, well read, was a political junkie, lived life to the fullest and was sustained, always, by his love of classical music. He loved colour and design and was always in the forefront of men’s fashion. He enjoyed his friends and was the last to leave a party. He will be missed by all of us but has left an indelible memory behind.

Special thanks to Ruth Saunders VON, Dr. Andrew Bodkin, Pharmacist Ayman Wasef for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers donations to The Salvation Army or Doctors Without Borders would honour Al’s memory.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Al’s life will be held at The London Club, 177 Queens Avenue, London, March 13th from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Please bring your special memories of Al and share them with us.
