Ann Elizabeth Rudd

Obituary

RUDD, Ann Elizabeth (nee Cottrell) Rudd

Ann Rudd died on November 21, 2022 at University Hospital, after a very brief illness with pneumonia.

Ann was an only child, born in Vancouver on March 12, 1934 to Grace and Harry Cottrell. She moved with her parents to Toronto in 1942, where she attended BSS, and then UWO (Western University), graduating in 1957.  There she met her husband Bill, who she hired as a math tutor. They married on March 8, 1958, settled in London together and raised two children, Sally and John.

Ann and Bill shared a love of dancing and were known to dance whenever, wherever, especially to big band music.  They also loved tennis and enjoyed summers at their cottage in Grand Bend, where they entertained grandchildren with croquet, crafts, bonfires and marshmallows.  For many years, Ann and Bill celebrated their wedding anniversary with a visit to Bermuda.

Ann was active in her community: volunteering in many elections, most often putting up lawn signs; on the planning committee of the University Hospital and later on the Board of UH from 1977-1983; and in the Craft Group at St. John’s Church.

Predeceased by her husband DS Bill Rudd (2021), Ann is survived by her children Sally (Chris Hermansen) and their children Carl (Chelsea), Anna, and Grace (Torsten) all of Vancouver, and John (Christine) of Naples, Florida and their children Nicholas (Erica) of Hightstown NJ, Cameron (Elizabeth) of Atlanta GA and Stephanie (George) of Raleigh NC, and great-grandson Parker of Atlanta GA. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Liz-Ann Rudd, and nephews Jason (Julia), David (Saba) and niece Jessica (James).

A service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 280 St. James St. at Wellington, on Friday Nov 25 at 2:00, reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, London would be appreciated.
