Barbara Wansbrough

Obituary

With deep sadness, we share that Barbara Joyce Wansbrough passed away on February 18, 2022, a few months shy of her 96th birthday, at peopleCare Oakcrossing Long-Term Care Home in London. She was “a force to be reckoned with” – brave, full of seemingly limitless energy and strongly opinionated but also cared deeply for others. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, David, who she sorely missed every day. We hope they are finally together again.

Barbara was born in the Port Credit area in 1926, married David in her early 20s, and raised two children in Markham – Paul Wansbrough (Charlottetown) and Penny (Wansbrough) Harman (London). She was mother-in-law to Dianne Campbell and grandmother to Anna Wansbrough. Barbara was extremely creative, excellent at sewing, needlepoint, petit point, rug hooking, embroidery, knitting and interior design, and those skills inspired her to open the Tranquility Shop with David in Markham which they ran together for decades. After retirement, David and Barbara moved to Belleville. Barbara strongly supported David through his years of volunteering for Quinte Literacy and was a familiar sight in Belleville where she went for long daily walks. She made many friends who she never stopped missing after she moved from Belleville to London to be closer to family.

In 2021, she moved into Oakcrossing Long-Term Care Home, and the care she received there, especially in her final days, and the kindness shown by staff to her family will always be remembered with sincere gratitude.

To honour Barbara’s wishes, there will be no service and no flowers. Cremation has taken place.

If desired, memorial donations to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Rest in peace, Mom. We will always love and miss you.
