BENJAMIN MUSGRAVE

Benjamin was struck by a motor vehicle on the evening of December 8th 2018 and as a result died in the early hours of December 9th. He was born in Guelph on April 23rd 1957, the youngest child of Dr. Anthony Musgrave and Anne Miller, of England and Scotland. He is survived by his sister Cecilia and two brothers Philip and Paul. He was predeceased by his brother John (2006) and sister Veronica (2017).

From infancy Benjamin was afflicted by seizures which were only partially controlled with medication; this was a factor in the long series of physical injuries he later experienced. He relied upon a walker to get around, but despite this he was fiercely independent.

His intelligence and his stubborn determination gave him a life that was joyful and productive. He read widely and was extraordinarily musically talented. He delighted in playing the piano, which he did by ear, and loved to sing, both solo and in choirs.

At London’s many hospitality meals he was notorious for his late arrivals and late departures, and his delight in telling jokes, often for the third and fourth times to the same person. He could be stubborn and demanding, but also generous and forgiving. The effort it took for him to rise up from a chair and then walk, with a slow and shuffling gait, was obvious. It also showed his pride and determination. Benjamin was much loved, and admired.

A funeral service for Benjamin will take place at the Church of St. John the Evangelist (Wellington & St. James, London) on Saturday, February 2nd at 4:00 pm. Friends may meet with the family from 3:00 pm. Cremation has already taken place. Burial will follow at Marymount Catholic Cemetery in Guelph. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest a donation to The Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI), London or McMaster Children’s Hospital, Hamilton.
