Robert Stewart McKenzie
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Robert Stewart McKenzie (Bob) on July 25, 2018, at age 79. Bob will be missed by his children Rob, Ian and Francine; their spouses Cinzia Foglietta, Maninder Kaur, and Michael Szonyi; his grandchildren McKenzie, Bobby, Katie and Kevin; his sister Barbara; his former wife Denise, with whom he remained good friends; and his partner Donna Armstrong and her children and their families.
Bob was born on September 19, 1938 in Carman, Manitoba. Bob’s parents were Bert and Kay McKenzie. He studied law at the University of Manitoba, where he also developed a life-long interest in journalism. Bob had a successful law practice in Carman for 37 years. He served as mayor for 7 ½ years. Public service was an important part of his life. He helped create the Carman flood diversion, which kept the town flood-free for decades, and the Boyne Tower and Lodge, a retirement and nursing home. He read widely, loved travel and the outdoors, and followed politics and the stock market closely. In 2010, he moved to Ottawa. He enjoyed life in Ottawa and appreciated the fellowship he found at the Britannia United Church.
Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Britannia United Church, Ottawa in the fall.
