It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cavan McHenry, a proud Irishman. Cavan passed surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Anne and cherished children: Hugh, Tom and Clare.
Cavan was the dear son of the late J.P. and Lily McHenry. Loving brother of the late Patrick McHenry (Lynn), Claire Dion (Paul), Brian McHenry (Helen), Anne Brown (Jack), the late Elizabeth McHenry (Michel), Frances Morgan (Michael), Mavourneen McHenry, and Terrance McHenry (Janet).
Dear brother-in-law to Kathlyn Hagerman, Douglas Hagerman, and Ellen Hagerman (Rod). Uncle Cavan is also survived and greatly missed by many loving nieces and nephews.
He was the fifth child of nine born into an Irish Catholic family in Sarnia, Ontario. Cavan’s hard work and determination led him to the University of Toronto’s Dental School, where he graduated in 1977. During dental school, Cavan was an officer of the Canadian Armed Forces. Following dental school, he started his own practice in Toronto on top of the Bloor St. Pizza Hut.
Cavan married Anne Hagerman of St. Thomas in 1993. He then moved to London, Ontario to purchase a dental practice and to raise their young family. He ran his practice in London for over twenty years before retiring in 2019.
Throughout his life, Cavan loved projects. He worked on a major renovation of his London dental office and the full rebuild of his family home. His New Holland tractor was a steady companion. Friends and family were often treated to his backyard hockey rinks throughout the winter.
Notable passions were the Detroit Red Wings and specialty cars: A Pierce Arrow, Rolls Royce and Citroen. He had hoped to include an RV to his collection. More recently, Pickleball ignited his fighting Irish spirit. But above all, Cavan’s family was the centre of his life. Their kindness, empathy and determination made him so very proud.
Cavan was a true gentleman, devoted husband and father. He was always there to lend a helping hand. A friendly wave or smile often accompanied his morning drives. Cavan’s unwavering loyalty and determination will never be forgotten. We are so fortunate to have had him in our lives.
He will be deeply missed.
A visitation will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street, London, Ontario on Sunday, October 22 from 2-4 p.m. A celebration of Cavan’s life will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Genetic Aortic Disorder Association, founded by his late sister Liz: (905)-826-3223.
