Charles Leslie Murison

Obituary

MURISON, Charles Leslie – Peacefully at University Hospital on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, Charles Leslie Murison of London in his 86th year.  Beloved husband of the late Barbara Cresswell Murison.  Loving father of James and his wife Charry of Markham and John and his wife Katie of Toronto.  Dear grandfather of Matthew, Nicole, Alexander and Malcolm. Beloved uncle and great uncle. Brother of the late Alexander Murison and of Andrew and John Murison.

Growing up in Scotland as the oldest of four boys, Leslie studied at both Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh. He met his future wife Barbara at Cambridge on both of their first days at the university in 1960, and they were married in 1963. They emigrated to Canada a few months later, taking a transatlantic ship to Montreal, with a train on to London.

Leslie’s passion for ancient history became his career, when he joined the Classical Studies department at Western University upon arriving in Canada. He continued teaching for over 50 years, with his final class being delivered in 2019 on one of his favourite topics, Alexander the Great.

While Leslie was extremely dedicated to his work, he will be remembered by those who loved him for his intelligence, kindness, warmth of personality and always present sense of humour.

A private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Victorian Order of Nurses would be appreciated.
