Donald Bere

Obituary

BERE, Donald B. – Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Monday, November 27, 2017 age 85. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Hunter-Bere. Beloved father of Mary Russell (Jim), George (Martha), the late James (Pam). Dear step-father of Alison Hunter (Jonathon Stewart) and Colin Hunter (Elizabeth). Proud grandfather of Britton, Jamie, Jason, Katie, Benjamin, and Jacob. Brother of Arthur Bere and the late Rosemary Bull and fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.

Don was the founder of Don Bere Homes and The Blue Seas Boat Company. He also held volunteer positions with several organizations including Metropolitan United Church, Westminster College and the Bob Hayward YMCA.

Don was a passionate outdoorsman who loved sailing, powerboating and fishing. He enjoyed countless boating adventures and introduced dozens of people to cruising, diving and deep-sea fishing in the Bahamas.

He will be remembered for his curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and positive outlook.

Don’s loving care of his beloved first mate, Liz, during her seven-year battle with cancer was an inspiration to all who knew him.

The family is especially grateful for the outstanding care of Dr. Izawa and the urology team at Victoria Hospital, Noura Agbar of Paramed, and the staff and medical professionals at Chartwell Riverside and the St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Visitation on Thursday from 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, where the funeral service will be conducted on Friday, December 1 at 11 am. Reception to follow. Interment Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated.
