Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Ellen Fitzpatrick (Cullen) – Passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, at McCormick Home, surrounded by her family. She lived a vibrant life of 80 years, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and music. Beloved wife of Norm Fitzpatrick, cherished mother of Sheri (Mark), and loving “Nana” to Haley, Luke and Will.

Born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Dorothy grew up in a lively household with her three sisters, Gertie, Colleen, and Margaret, and five brothers, Ronnie, Gary, Mike, Kevin and Wayne. Her Cape Breton upbringing provided an easy ability to make people laugh and she was often the life of the party.

Arriving in Toronto in her 20s, Dorothy met her first husband, George, and they welcomed their daughter, Sheri.  She often referred to Sheri as her “Gold,” reflecting the deep bond they shared. Their relationship was a source of immense pride and happiness.

Dot was known for her love of music, dancing and laughter and she would lead impromptu sing-alongs with her guitar whenever she could.  One and all would join in as she brought out the East Coast spirit in everyone in her company.

An accomplished golfer, Dot won club championships, became a teaching pro, and was celebrated for multiple hole-in-ones.  Her love for golf continued throughout her life, becoming a cherished activity she shared with her husband, Norm.

Dorothy is survived by Norm Fitzpatrick, her devoted husband of 25 years.  They enjoyed spending time with family, attending church, and travelling south where they enjoyed many winters in Florida.

When her grandchildren came along, Dot became “Nana Dot.”  She found her deepest joy in spending time with her grandchildren, Haley, Luke, and Will. She will be forever remembered for “Nana Days,” and her unconditional love.

Visitation on Monday, November 11th, from 4-6 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, followed by a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, November 12th, at 11:00 am at St. George’s Parish, 1164 Commissioners Rd. W. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McCormick Care Foundation.

Dorothy’s spirit will continue to live on through the music, laughter, and memories she shared with her family and many friends.
