McFARLANE, Dr. Norman – Peacefully at University Hospital with family by his side on Thursday, December 28, 2023, Dr. Norman Arthur McFarlane of London age 88. Beloved husband for 59 years of Norma. Loving father of Scott. Dear brother of Marnie Alison. Cherished uncle of Leisa, Nicole and Michelle Alison and Cheryl Lake. Norman McFarlane grew up in London, Ontario, graduated from Medway High School, and attended the University of Western Ontario. He Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and he then joined the University of Toronto Dental Faculty and graduated in 1962. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, and served in the Dental Corps. achieving the rank of Captain. It was during this time that he met Norma Lake, and they married. They travelled and lived in Moncton, and Dusseldorf, Germany. Upon discharge from the Military, Norm attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a certification in Anesthesiology. He settled in London, Ontario, established a successful Dental Practice, and he served as a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Western Ontario. Norm was a pillar of the Ontario Dental Association, and he served as the President of the London and District Dental Society in 1977-78.
He also held a Pilot’s license, and had shared ownership in a plane. Norm learned to play the Bagpipes in the early 1980’s, and he joined the London Police band. He was still playing and marching in parade events until a month before his passing. Norman was an avid Angler, loved the outdoors, and had travelled around the world.
The family of the late Dr. Norman A McFarlane invites you to a church service at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Arva at 11:00am on Saturday April 6, 2024. We invite present and former neighbours, colleagues, friends and relatives to celebrate the life of Norm McFarlane. Reception to follow at Sunningdale Golf & Country Club in London at 1:00pm.
