Obituary

GARDNER, Dr. Robert – Peacefully at Manor Village on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Robert Charles Gardner, Professor Emeritus Western University, age 90.

Loving husband of the late Janet. Beloved father of David Gardner (Mary), Wendy Gardner (Fabian Friedland), Stephen Gardner (Jill Mandley).  Grandfather of Ryan Gardner (Randall), Janet Friedland, Eddie Friedland, Claire Gardner and Simon Gardner.  Brother of the late Fran and Margaret.

R.C. Gardner was a psychologist, most recognized for his work in second language acquisition and motivation.  Dr. Gardner obtained his Ph.D. in psychology from McGill University in 1960, and Post Doctorate at the Graduate School of Education, Harvard University. He was a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario for over 50 years, teaching the graduate course in Research Design, and serving as statistical consultant to the Department. He authored three books and published over 150 journal articles. He received numerous accolades, including the Canadian Psychological Association’s Award for Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training.

A celebration of his life is being planned for December 28th.
