SMALL, Dr. Violet – Dr. Violet Doris Small, age 86, passed away on 13 March 2024, at University Hospital in London Ontario. She was born in Sudbury, Ontario to David and Katherine Doubrovine.
Violet graduated from Queen’s Medical School in 1961, after spending summers in Sudbury working at Silverman’s Department Store, and later, the Inco medical clinics. She married Mervyn in June 1961, and soon started her internship at Toronto East General Hospital. She completed residency training as an anesthesiologist in Detroit. During her four decades at work in operating rooms in Windsor and London, she forged many close friendships. Violet loved to cook good food for all in her orbit: every holiday meal at her home was a feast! Several of her other talents included sewing most of her wardrobe as a young woman, crocheting, and gardening. She enjoyed traveling all seven continents of the world with family and friends
She is dearly missed by her two daughters Karen (Michael) Steckner and Cyndi McKenzie; also her sister, Sonia Bertrim. She is the beloved grandmother of five boys: Angus, Andrew, Scott, David and Eric, and proud aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband Mervyn, her parents, and brothers Harry and Zenas Wowk.
