Fred Lutz

Obituary

LUTZ, Fred Josef

Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Saturday, December 21, 2024, with his wife Mary Fran and devoted four legged friend Katia at his side.  He was in his 75th year. Also missed by his son Geoff (Tricia), daughter Melanie (J.P.), grand-children Ty, Thatcher and Adelaide Lutz; Dex and Elle Bourret.  He will be lovingly remembered by sisters Gisela (Jim), Ingrid (Karl), brothers-in-law Rob (Adrianne), Will (Donna) along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents Gottfried and Johanna.

Fred was born in Guldental, Germany on March 11, 1950 and emigrated to Canada at age 8, settling in Lambeth with his family.  Fred’s energetic spirit lent itself to a variety of careers over the years.  He touched many lives as an elementary teacher. Early on he began various entrepreneurial enterprises selling products ranging from travel at Donnybrook Travel in Dorchester to housing materials and finally pools and hot tubs.  He treasured every person he met and became fast friends.  Fred was the guy who knew a guy and he derived great enjoyment from helping others with a project.

Fred loved dogs and knew each and every one in the neighbourhood.  They soon learned a treat awaited them at the end of Fred’s drive.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to the many, many friends, family and neighbours who surrounded us with care, assistance and good wishes on hearing of Fred’s cancer diagnosis.  Special recognition goes to the artwork of Lauren and Alex which cheered and encouraged us throughout this journey.  Our gratitude to oncology nurse Sharon and the wonderful caring members of the hospice team who made Fred’s final weeks as comfortable as possible.

A celebration of life will take place at a future date. Those wishing to make donations in Fred’s memory please consider St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.
