Obituary

Georgina Roxburgh Harris

July 24, 1931 – March 19, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Georgina Bernice Roxburgh Harris. Georgina was born and raised in Montréal. She also lived in Schefferville and France before moving to London.

Georgina met James “Jim” Harris on a bike tour. Jim was convinced that she stole his hat. Georgina was adamant that she had not. They never got to the bottom of it but fell in love and got married in 1951. They had three children, Kevin (Judy), Wendy (Chris), and Robin.

Georgina was predeceased by her husband Jim, her sister Jackie and nephew Chris. She is survived by her children, her grandchildren, Julia (Albert), Elizabeth (Jeff), Jocelyn, and Jeremy (Jessie), and great-grandchildren Olivia, Grace, Morgan, Hannah and Ellie and nephew Randy (Suzanne) and niece Melodie Anne (Michael).

After graduating with a Doctorate in Philosophy (Psychology), she worked at University Hospital in London. Georgina acquired a computer early on, eagerly adapting to digital life. She used the online world to continue her extensive research into the family tree, and found family all over the world, many of whom she travelled to meet and who became dear friends.

Georgina had a passion for life and experiencing every wonderful possibility. She loved history and travel and gathering family and friends around her. Georgina loved to entertain and cooked delicious meals, putting thought and care into every delightful detail. She had a love for art and theatre. You couldn’t bring up a subject without her being reminded of a song and promptly starting to sing it.

Most importantly, Georgina adored her son, Robin. She cared for and advocated fiercely for him and was his primary caregiver until she was 91. After Robin moved to Eden last summer, she visited him almost every day, reading stories and singing his favourite songs.

The family would like to thank Nasrin Bigadi, who has helped with Robin for many years and, who, since the summer, lovingly assisted Georgina every day, making and bringing all her meals and driving her to and from her visits with Robin. Thank you also to Kelly Burlock who has helped care for Robin for years and was a constant enthusiastic support helping Robin and Georgina stay in their home as long as possible.

A memorial for Georgina will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street near Richmond, London, Ontario on Friday, April 7, 2023 between 11 AM and 1 PM with remembrances of Georgina beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Participation House (PHSS) would be appreciated.
