Helen Spears

Obituary

SPEARS, Helen – Peacefully at home with family by her side, Helen Margaret Spears of Aylmer and formerly of Wiarton and Tobermory, age 73.  Lovingly remembered by her partner Bill; children William Burley, Tracey Jones of St. Thomas, Ontario, and son-in-law John Jones also of St. Thomas, Ontario.  Proud Nani of John Liam Jones (Paige) and Ethan Jones and many step-grandchildren. Dearly missed by lifelong friend, John Burley. Dear sister of Ken Spears (Vangie), Ruth Howatt (Carmen), Eileen Greidanus and the late Wilma Vincent (Clare), brother-in-law Leo Greidanus.

Helen was raised on a farm in Tobermory, Ontario with her parents and four siblings.  Spending the majority of her years living on the Bruce Peninsula, Helen enjoyed a lifelong career in healthcare, helping others!  The youngest of her siblings, Helen shared an amazing sense of humor, often describing herself as the “one mom kept trying for – once they had the perfect baby, they knew the family was complete!”  Family was key to Helen, and this was evident throughout her life.  Anyone on the Bruce Peninsula knew of the infamous “Spears Girls” because you could hear them laughing all the way from Tobermory to Wiarton!  Helen will forever be remembered for her kindness, compassion for people and animals, loyalty to her friendships and her love of her grandkids.  She always said that she was born to be a “Nani”, and she was a great one!

As per Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21 in Tobermory, Ontario.  Further details to be announced.
