Obituary

VINE, Helen (nee Mattsen) –
March 30, 1925 – March 30, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and graceful passing of Helen at University Hospital on March 30, 2019. Reunited with her loving husband and soulmate Fred (1999). Cherished mother to Tom (Cathy Lenz) Vine and Susan (Dave) Fahrner. Loving Grama to Sarah (Cade) Sanders and Timothy (Crystal Bossio) Vine. Adored GG to Camden, Kyenna and Mara Sanders. Dear sister-in-law to Grace and John Everett as well as her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister-in-law Lenore and Hadden Gillespie.

Helen lived a full and happy life and she will always be remembered for her grace and dignity. She was affectionately known for her engaging beautiful warm smile that would light up a room and her outstanding fashion sense. As a military wife she and Fred enjoyed many interesting postings and made many friends around the world. She was active in many areas of volunteer work and enjoyed golfing, curling, tennis, bridge, theatre, and her social events with her many friends. Helen and Fred loved to travel and in later years enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. Helen’s greatest joy was her family and spending time with them playing euchre and having the occasional glass of wine.

The family is most grateful for the tender care provided by the Orthopedic, Medicine and Palliative Care Teams at University Hospital and her PSW team from Richmond Woods.

The family will receive friends at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, April 9. A memorial service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 227 Wharncliffe Road N. on Wednesday, April 10 at 11:30 am. Private family interment at a later date in Atwood, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers please consider Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Mocha Shriners, 468 Colborne St., London N6B 2T3 or a charity of your choice.
