Arva — Ina Weldon’s boundless joy, humour, mischief and love – opened doors, dried tears, hatched a plan, tickled and inspired. She was one of a kind.
Surrounded by her children and grandchildren, Ina died peacefully in her home on Friday, the seventh of July, after many years of declining health related to Alzheimer’s.
Born in 1926, the 6th of seven children to Fred and Emily Perry of Montreal, Quebec, Ina described her childhood as simple fun with spare resources, brimful of storytelling and adventure.
As a young woman, Ina and her sister went to business school at night and by day, launched the first temporary secretarial agency in Canada, Perry Personnel.
While in Montreal, Ina met David Weldon, and in 1951 they married and moved to London, Ontario, where they remained crazy in love for 66 years.
Ina was known for her striking beauty, but cherished for her genuine gift of friendship, most apparent as a “fun-loving charter member” of The Turtles Club, and volunteer at the May Court Club of London, Shaw Festival, Toronto General Hospital Auxiliary and numerous charities.
Predeceased by her husband, David, Ina is survived by her five children, Susan (Barry Margison), Doug (Estela Quintero), Tony (Beth Malloy), Mardie (Michael Shay), Kate (Mark Baldwin), and her fourteen grandchildren, as well as by her brother, Gary Perry and his wife, Anna.
Visitations will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St James St. at Richmond, London, on Tuesday, July 11, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A service will be held at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Arva at 2pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Interment and reception will follow.
