It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irena Michalina Olma (nee Bochenek) in her home in her 92nd year.
Irena was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1933, and she moved to Canada with her mother and sisters when her early life was disrupted by war. Irena took great pride in her work at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she joyfully spent over 20 years. Irena was a champion of education; she completed her sociology degree from Western University at the age of 76 in 2009.
Above all her accomplishments, she was the most devoted to and proud of her family. She was the cherished wife of the late Alojzy (Alec) Olma (2019), and loving mother of Richard (Jennifer) and Mark (Jennifer). Nana will live forever in the hearts of her grandchildren, Brodie, Natalie, and Zachary. She was the beloved sister of Hanna Sgromo (Art) and the late Roma Murphy (Gus), and aunt of Virginia and Annette. Irena will forever be missed and remembered for her spirit and endless generosity.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica, 196 Dufferin Ave. at Richmond on Monday, September 9 at 12 noon, with visitation at the church preceding Mass from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
