James (Jim) Hastings Windsor

Obituary

WINDSOR, James (Jim) Hastings. It is with much sadness that the family of Jim Windsor announces his passing at home on September 5th 2022 in his 97th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife and life partner, Dorothy.

Jim was born July 27, 1926, in Carluke, Scotland. His family moved to Canada shortly after his birth. A child of the depression Jim grew up in Oakville ON where he and his brother Jack helped the family by doing odd jobs. At a young age he learned to play the bagpipes and was the youngest member of a military pipe band, often marching in their parades. As a young teen he served as a Page in the Ontario legislature when Mitch Hepburn was premier. Jim and his brother also caddied at Oakville Golf Club. This led Jim to his lifelong career and passion, the game of golf. He started his career as a club professional at the Arnprior golf course where he met and fell in love with Dorothy. They were married in 1951 and shared their lives for 68 years until her death in 2020. In 1953 he was offered the position of Head Golf Professional at the prestigious Sunningdale G.C. in London by Col. J.G. Thompson. He remained at Sunningdale for 37 years and became a fixture of the London golf community. A wonderful teacher, he introduced hundreds of youngsters to the game, running group lessons for 50 or more children at a time. Always the energetic entrepreneur, Jim started a side business in 1958 selling golf accessories to local courses and with Dorothy’s help, grew it into a very successful Canada wide enterprise.

Jim was known for his keen wit and great people skills. He made a great many friends throughout his long life. Jim will be remembered for his generosity, and compassion. He had the rare ability to always make those around him feel comfortable and welcome no matter what their age or position.

Jim is predeceased by his brother Jack and sister Rene. Loving father of James (Sheila), Tom, Dan (Kelly) and Anne, and proud grandfather of Jessica, Claire, Kyle, Rachel and Brennan, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Our sincere gratitude to Crescent and the other caring professionals that assisted Jim in his final years.

Visitation on Friday, September 9th from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. On Saturday September 10th there will be a visitation at 1:00pm followed by a 2pm memorial service at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church 1246 Oxford St. West.
