James Roe

Obituary

ROE, James Phillip – Passed away peacefully at Extendicare, London on Friday, December 18, 2020, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Doris Roe (2019). Loving father of James, Deborah and Nicholas. Proud grandfather of Kristopher, Rhys, Devin, Sarah and Meghan. Great-grandfather to Dani, Logan, Rylee, Kennedy, and Sullivan. Predeceased by his sister Hazel (in infancy) and his loving brother William Roe. Survived by sisters Merle Waite, Diana Micallef, and Marguerite Newell.

Jim did his National Service with the Irish Guards and served at Buckingham Palace and Egypt. Upon completion of service he trained as a cabinet maker. Jim owned his own contracting business in the UK before emigrating to Canada and eventually settling in London Ontario. He spent many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London as the in-house carpenter. After retirement he enjoyed completing many woodworking projects for his grandchildren including animal moneyboxes, gumball machines, and the one-of-a-kind indoor slide.

He was known for his practical jokes and was once caught by the midwife prancing around the kitchen in her hat and coat during Deborah’s home delivery. He enjoyed a good laugh, good friends and of course a good single malt.

Due to COVID restrictions, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Extendicare London or the charity of your choice.
