Jane Sproule

Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Jane Sproule in her home on Monday, April 10, 2023, in her 90th year.  Jane was a loving mother, wife and grandmother and is survived by her two daughters, Andrea and Ellen and her grandchildren Claire Payette and Julia Payette. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert ‘Bob’ Sproule. (1926 – 1998)

Jane was born in London, Ontario in 1933, the only child of Eleanor and Stanley Albert McLeod. She received her BA in Speech Therapy from Emerson College (Boston, MA) in 1955 and went on to practice in Peapack, New Jersey, Boston and London, Ontario at the Crippled Children’s Treatment Centre.

Jane and Bob spent the first years of their marriage in Boston before moving to London, Ontario to settle and raise a family. In 1971-72, Bob took a one-year sabbatical from teaching at Western University to study in London, England and the family moved to Putney. Jane loved her time in the UK meeting new friends and enjoying all that ‘Big’ London had to offer.

A very social lady, with a good sense of humour, Jane was an avid bridge player and book club member. She enjoyed great conversation with her life-long friends: Marn, Sue, Carol and Kit.

Jane had an eclectic career and an avid appreciation for the arts and crafts. She was a weaver for many years, a volunteer and staff member with the Heart and Stroke Foundation but first and foremost she was a wonderful and giving mother.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 14 from 4-6 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 15 at 10:30 am.

If desired, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario: www.heartandstroke.ca
