Obituary

MATHERS, Jim – Peacefully with family by his side at University Hospital on Friday, June 7, 2019, William James Mathers of London age 91. Beloved husband of the late Tanis, nee Kell (2002). Loving father of Kathy and her husband David Hibbert of Brossard, Quebec, Janet and her husband Drew Dalgleish of Centralia, Bill and his wife Janice of London, Andrew and his wife Susan of Brampton, and the late Allan Timothy Seth Mathers. Dear grandfather of Kristen (Sammy), Thomas (Carly), Kaylea and Elissa Hibbert, Caitlin (Nic) and Daniel (Eve) Mathers, and Jake, and step-grandfather of Mike (Hayley) and Kate (Mark) Dalgleish, and great-grandfather of Kaylin, Taylor, Jorydn, Ruth, Marnie, Reid, and Evelyn. Brother of Ruth Johns and the late John Mathers. Brother-in-law of Tom Virany.

Jim was a man who valued education, intelligence, athleticism and integrity. These values were exemplified in his family life, his career as an educator (almost exclusively at Medway High School), an active church life (at Robinson United Church), and his athletic pursuits (he excelled at running, Masters Track & Field, badminton and hockey). He loved his cottage (especially when he had a fish on his line) and used it as a place for his family to stay connected.

Visitation on Tuesday from 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, where the funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 12 at 11 am. Reception to follow. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
