Obituary

James Manzer Miller
February 14, 1933 – March 18, 2022

The family of Jim Miller is sad to announce his death at McCormick Home on March 18th, 2022.

Jim was born on February 14, 1933 the son of James and Mabel Miller in Ingersoll, Ontario.
Friends and family will remember him for his love of family, music and his long career in banking. Jim began work with Imperial Bank of Canada beginning on January 24, 1950. Several years later the bank merged with Bank of Commerce to become CIBC. He served in ten Branches as well as several years in Head Office Credit Department in both Toronto and London. His goal was always to provide the best possible customer service in friendly Branches.

Jim retired early for health reasons in September 1988. A move to London for medical support brought the needed treatment and new friends. He and Jackie made the most of their retirement years, traveling with a little trailer across the continent and remaining in touch with friends and family.

Music was a very important part of Jim’s life. As a boy he learned to play trumpet and so competed in Music Festivals and Competitions, winning many awards. Music was the source of friends in new communities and he remained involved as an adult when he was a member of local brass bands in many communities. He also sang in several church choirs where a good bass voice is always welcome.

Jim was Church Treasurer in several places and was also on Session.
He was a member of Rotary or Lions Club in communities where the family lived. He also belonged to Board of Trade doing community work such as establishing a Medical Centre where he was living.

The most important part of life was his family. He planned summer holidays as camping trips in many places, never the same place twice. Lots of wonderful experiences made many memories for all of the family. He enjoyed skiing in winter and the boys loved water skiing in summer so he could to play with his boys most of the year. He loved following Joan as a figure skater and when she was in a Synchronized Skating Team competition it was a good reason to enjoy a midwinter weekend away. All this family time ensured the family inherited his goofy sense of humour, curiosity, love of barbeques, travel and a commitment to family life.

The medical problems that brought him to London eventually caused a stroke in 2008 and his life then was enjoyed from a wheel chair. Determination and independence kept him enjoying family events and Sunday lunch in many restaurants over the years. His love of music remained strong and humour was part of his nature always. He thought his last joke might be to die on April first but he could not wait.

Jim is survived by Jackie, his loving wife of nearly 67 years and their children, Jim (Tricia) in New Hamburg, John (Elaine) in Toronto, Jeff (Keli) in London and Joan Coleman (Randy) in Duncan, B.C.

Their Grandchildren are Ryan (Erin) Miller and Katelyn Miller in Kitchener, Benjamin Miller in London, England, Celeste in Ottawa, Jennifer (Rob Van Hoorn), London, Jason (Dr. Victoria Miller), Hamilton, Joshua (Lynne), Kitchener, Luke Coleman, Duncan, B.C.

Their Great Grandchildren are Austin and Lauren Miller, Kitchener, Hudson, Fiona and Hazel Van Hoorn, London, and Rachel and Molly Miller, Kitchener.

Jim loved flowers but he would prefer funds be donated to either McCormick Home Foundation or Oakridge Presbyterian Church Legacy Fund.

The funeral service will be conducted at Oakridge Presbyterian Church, 970 Oxford St. W., on Tuesday, March 22 at 2 pm by the Rev. Michael Stohl. Private interment later at Ingersoll Rural Cemetery.
