A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, August 4 at 11 am at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond.

WALSH, John Edward – Peacefully in his sleep at Mt. Hope Centre for Long Term Care on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, John Edward Walsh, Professor Emeritus Western University, in his 87th year. Beloved husband for 61 years of Helen Walsh, nee Wilson. Loving father of Mary Helen, John (Mary), David and the late Matthew. Dear grandfather of Jennifer (Bill Hewerdine), Stephanie (Daniel Potter), Austin Partridge, Brian Partridge (Shannon), Rhonda, Justine, John, Michael and proud great-grandfather of Matthew, Danielle and Bradley Hewerdine. Brother of the late David (Beth).

A pioneer in computer studies at Western, John established the first computer in a classroom in Canada at H.B. Beal Secondary School and authored the first automated report card system for educators. He was actively interested in farming and an avid gardener. He also served two terms as a Councillor in Grand Bend.
