Joseph Pineau

Obituary

Pineau, Joseph Douglas – Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital on November 7, 2020 age 89. Beloved husband of Mary Alexandra Pineau, nee Shephard. Joseph Douglas Pineau was truly a family man of quiet dignity born in the spirit of Nova Scotia, one of kindness, charity and large families. He relished his role of husband for over 67 years, father of 5, grandfather of 14, and great grandfather to 5. He had a proud military career and worked hard to ensure that his family was comfortable, working several jobs in the early years, just to make sure that his children had a solid foundation on which to succeed. Doug married his teenage sweetheart and was happy to let Mary lead in creating a welcoming home and social life. He benefited with a much better golf game and became the envy of the bowling green, to her chagrin. He was easy to underestimate because of his quiet demeanour but contributed when he had something to share. As a model for our turbulent world, he never had a harsh word, even if he disapproved or was disappointed; instead preferring to share his experience and kindness to help people improve. He never met a mechanical or renovation project that he could not master, be it a kitchen sky light, a Franklin fireplace, or a 1978 AMC Concorde. He liked a nice cold beer after a warm summer day and the opportunity to “rest his eyes” in his easy chair. Enjoy your well-deserved rest dear Father… that as sure as the sunrise, as sure as the sea, as sure as the wind in the trees, you rise again in the faces of your family and friends.
