Obituary

WILMOTT, Kenneth (Ken) Brian – Peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Monday, August 26, 2019 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Hazel Wilmott, nee Mitten. Dear father of Kevin Wilmott of Surrey, British Columbia and Karen Hodgins (Nick) of Mount Brydges. Dear grandfather of Michelle Gunniss, Morgan Hodgins, Brady Hodgins, Stephanie Gillott and Victoria Sinclair. Great grandfather of Stella and Naiomi Gunniss, Lachlan and Leo Gillott and Lucy Sinclair. Dear brother of Christopher, St. Albans, UK and Grahame, Saffron Walden, UK and brother-in-law of Gillian Watts, North Baddesley, UK. Ken was born in North Cheam, England on July 10, 1932. He was educated at Hastings Technical College and his first job was as an apprenctice woodworker for Hastings City Council. Ken married Hazel Mitten on June 27, 1953. His son Kevin was born on August 3, 1954 and his daughter Karen was born on April 28, 1958. Ken and his family emigrated to Canada in July of 1968 and was employed at London Steel Industries, Tripak Solid Waste Handling Division and retired from Blue Rhino Waste Industries in 1998. Ken joined the Rotary Club of London West in 1986 and served as Club President 1999-2000. Hazel and Ken hosted many Rotary Exchange students over the years. Ken was appointed Rotary Assistant Governor 2006-2009 and was Rotary District 6330 District Grants Chair 2010-2014. He was a Charter Member of St. Thomas Railway City Rotary Club 2014 to the present. Ken was also a member of St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge No. 107 from 1993 to the present. He served as Worshipful Master in 2000. Ken was very passionate about literacy, tree planting and environmental projects as well as enjoying gardening, travel, stained glass and woodworking. A memorial service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond on Wednesday, September 4 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions to The Rotary Foundation (Canada), Canadian Cancer Society or St. Joseph’s Hospice would be appreciated.
