Margaret (Thornton) Garside
Margaret Garside, 74, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, August 10, 2024 surrounded by her family at the Parkwood Institute Palliative Care Unit. Born in Ingersoll, Ontario, Margaret found her calling as a nurse and moved to London where she spent her life caring for others, beginning at Victoria Hospital, and later as a personal support worker in the community. Known to friends as Maggie, she was kind, caring, neat, sweet, funny, stubborn but patient, and she loved her family fiercely.
Margaret and her husband David were married for 54 years. She was the loving mother of Brian (Charlene) Garside and Annette (Chris) Fullard, and a devoted grandmother to Kaylin and Maks Garside. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Muriel (Bannister) Thornton, her brother Jim Thornton, and her son-in-law Chris Fullard. She is survived by her husband David Garside and brothers Aubrey and David Thornton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond on Thursday, August 22 at 6 pm. Reception to follow.
The family welcomes donations to the St Joseph’s Health Care Foundation Palliative Care Program instead of flowers.
