Mary Barr

Obituary

BARR, Mary – Peacefully at University Hospital on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 Mary Bartlet Barr, nee Turnbull of London in her 84th year.  Beloved wife of the late Dr. Robert M. Barr (2013).  Loving mother of David (Jolene), Richard (Laura) and Catherine (Dale Ranick).

Dear Grammy and Nana of Megan (Matthew Newman), Andrew, Jameson (Adrienna Pallen), Lauren (Andrew Moffat), Spencer, Michael, Nolan, Curtis, Taron and Bryce and great-grandmother of Sophie Newman.  Dear sister of Ann Brush (John) of Harrow.  Fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a talented entrepreneur and saleswoman.  She spent many years as a girl working in the family’s department store in Windsor and then in 1980 opened her own business with 5 partners, called Market Crafts.  Market Crafts, in the Covent Garden Market, was well-loved by Londoners and tourists as it featured a wide range of hand-crafted items by Canadian artisans. Although Mary had a keen eye for beautifully crafted products, her favorite thing about “the store” was the people that she met along the way.  After 29 years, Market Crafts was sold.

Mary enjoyed playing bridge with friends, spending time with family at the cottage and travelling with her husband Bob.

A memorial service will be conducted at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Friday, September 15 at 1:30 pm, with visitation preceding from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Reception to follow. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Blood Services would be welcomed.
