Mary Jane “Molly” Allen

Obituary

With deep sorrow, we announce that Mary Jane “Molly”, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in her 91st year, surrounded by her family. Loving wife of 58 years to John Allen, mother of Tom Allen, Sharon Cummings (Kevin Cummings) and Lisa Allen (Greg Lee). She will be sadly missed by her grand-children Nicholas and Kelsey Cummings, Sean Allen and step-grandchildren Skylar, Sasha (Colin Campbell) and Shelby Lee. She was a great grandmother to Charlotte Lee-Campbell. She was a dear sister to Robert Johnston (deceased) (Sally Johnston), Pat Shisko (Walt Shisko) and Paul Johnston (Verna Rose Johnston). Her many nieces and nephews remember her with love.

Molly was born in Toronto, her life brought her to Kingston, Napanee, Dollard des Ormeaux, Richmond Hill and finally London. She worked as a laboratory assistant in the Queens University Bacteriology Laboratory and then Defense Research Kingston Laboratory until 1961 where her work contributed to several publications. In addition to being a full-time wife, mother and grand-mother, Molly gave much of herself to others including through her extensive volunteering in the community.

She lived as she died, with grace, with strength, and with kindness and compassion.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Chartwell Royalcliff Retirement Residence as well as to the Nurses, PSW’s and other health care providers in oncology and palliative care that supported her and John, so that they could stay together until her death.

A celebration of Molly’s life will be held with friends and family in Kingston at a date to be determined in the near future, where she will be interred alongside her parents and brother at GlenHaven Memorial Gardens, Glenburnie.
