GREEN, Orlo – aged 87, passed away on Saturday July 2, 2022. Orlo was a stationary engineer, a wood craftsman, a fixer of all nature of things, a lifelong musician and worshiper, an elder, a lover of antique cars and steam engines, an Emergency Response responder, but his greatest accomplishment was love. He cared for all he met and his love turned to action. He was a believer in the extravagant nature of grace and bestowed it generously, even scandalously. He was the personification of friendliness. He befriended a glorious diversity of people who felt seen and safe in his presence. We were all beneficiaries of his love, grace and friendship. May his love for following Jesus continue to be handed down generationally.
Orlo was an endlessly loving husband and family man and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 66 years Gwendolyn Jane Green (Hilton), and his children Brenda (Mark), Nancy (Bernie) and Brent. He is a dear grandfather to Ben (Mary), Jasmine (Tim), Mark (Janae), Emily, Frances (David), Neil (Jessica), Tonya (Trev), Shari, Jordyn (Christian), Kaden and 18 great-grandchildren. The space he leaves in our lives cannot be filled humanly, only God can fill the void.
Orlo was born in Arthur, Ontario to Henry and Mabel Green on March 10, 1935. He was the youngest of 8 children, all predeceased, Gordon, Virgil, Genevieve, Cecil, Nilah, Ken, Willard and many of their spouses. Those who remain are his beloved Nephew “Brother” Lowell and Debbie Green, Sisters-in-law Cheryl Green (Gordon) and Marion Snider-Green (Willard) and his wife’s sister and brother-in-law Myra and Myron Myers and a gaggle of cherished nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to the incredible staff and caregivers of The Manor Village in London. We are truly grateful for your tenderness and wisdom in caregiving. Memorial contributions may be sent to Forest Cliff Camp (forestcliff.ca) where Orlo and Gwen laboured in love for many years. A casual celebration of his life will follow at a later date.
