LAWRENCE, Richard Andrew – our family is saddened to announce Richard’s passing on December 3, 2022 in his 84th year, at St. Joseph’s Hospice. The peace of his passing and the faith which strengthened and sustained him on his journey are a source of comfort and strength to us.
Beloved husband since 1983 and best friend of Diane, loving dad to Dave (Connie) of New Hampshire, Bryan (Kate) of London, and Matt of Waterloo. Dear grandpa to Alexander, Aaron, Daniel, and Emma. Survived by former spouse and friend, Shirley Lawrence.
Richard was a steadfast, quiet man with an engaging sense of humour. Throughout his career with General Motors he focused not on power or status, but on treating others (including those on the opposite side of the negotiating table) with respect, fairness, and integrity. He was strategic in his approach – whether playing duplicate bridge, board games with family, working out at the gym, or training his beloved Labrador retrievers. Algonquin Park and the many camping holidays shared with good friends were dear to his heart. Richard enjoyed giving back – volunteering at Meals on Wheels, and getting to know his clients (and their pets!) meant a lot to him. He was perceptive, patient, and persevering.
Richard greatly appreciated the care and compassion of Dr. Mansur Rahal, Family Physician, who supported and guided us with such foresight through the early stages of his cancer diagnosis. We are very grateful for the expertise of the team at HCCSS led by Nicole Lukey. Heartfelt thanks to Sinoja, RN with St. Elizabeth, for her proactive manner, unwavering commitment, and her kind heart. Richard and the family have been blessed by the St. Joseph’s Hospice team, who cared for him with such tenderness and compassion.
The funeral service will be held at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond on Thursday, December 15 at 11:30 am, Pastor Neil Chotai officiating, with visitation preceding from 10 am to 11:30 am. Reception to follow. Private interment Woodland Cemetery.
