Peacefully at Manor Village on February 5, 2024, Rodney Douglas Hancock, PhD, CCIB, in his 74th year. Loving husband of Caroline. Devoted father of Jason (Jessica), Paul (Jennifer), Tasha (Ben), Mark and Patrick. Special Bubba to Ryan, Sophia, Reese, William, Morrissey, Charlotte, Goldie, Spencer, Brady, Baily and Dylan. Great Bubba to Bodie. Sadly missed by brothers Wayne (Helen) and Geoff (Sandra). Son-in-law of Lois Palmer (the late Harold) and brother-in-law of Michael Palmer. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Douglas and Betty Hancock and daughter-in-law Melissa. Special thanks to his caring and faithful friends Grant, Frank, Larry, Paul and Bruce.
Born in Galt, Ontario, Rodney graduated with a Ph.D. in psychology. Upon receiving his degree, he began his career as a professor and researcher at The University of Western Ontario and Brescia College. Rodney decided on a career change joining Rowlands Insurance Brokers, becoming President. After numerous acquisitions and mergers, he went on to become the CEO and President of McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers, until his retirement.
Education being important to Rodney, he went on to earn his Canadian Certified Insurance Broker designation. He taught the Broker licensing courses at Fanshawe College, facilitated, and created various levels of insurance courses for brokers in London.
Throughout his career he was Past President of the London Insurance Brokers; Past President, Chairman and Education Director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario; and a Director and Co-Chair of Professional Development of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. He educated and mentored many in the insurance industry.
Rodney spent many hours volunteering for charities and as director on the boards of many associations.
After family, Rodney’s passions were running and golf. He ran many half marathons, 26 marathons and achieved his goal of running the 100th Boston Marathon. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed rounds of golf with friends at the London Hunt and Country Club.
He will be remembered for his charm, wit, sense of humour and making you feel like you were the only person in the room.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Manor Village Retirement Home for their wonderful care. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family service. A celebration of life to take place at a later date. Contributions to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation, London; YMCA of Southwestern Ontario; or the Alzheimer Society, Southwest Partners-Middlesex Office, in Rodney’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
