Obituary

Russell Allan Gonder
February 22, 1929 – December 8, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Russell Gonder at Victoria Hospital on December 8, 2023 in his 95th year.

Russ was predeceased by Leota Gonder, his beloved wife of 53 years. He is survived by his three children John Gonder (Kathie), Anne Raudoy of Ottawa and Brenda Semple. Russ was the dear Poppy of Martha (Dan), Tom (Stephanie), Rob (Crystal), Courtney, Christopher (Katie), David (Laurie) and 14 great-grandchildren who all adored him. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Albert and Raymond.

Russ leaves behind his second wife June Flanagan of 10 years. They enjoyed travelling together, spending time with family and their winters in Vero Beach, Florida.

Russ was born in Port Hope and moved with his family to London in his teenage years. He attended Beal Secondary School where he worked towards becoming an electrician. After starting his family, Russ went back to school and received his degree in mechanical engineering from Western University. He started working at Western in the Buildings and Grounds Department and ended his career there as a Director.

Russ was an avid skier who continued to ski until the age of 80. He also loved sailing, camping and canoeing and spending time at his cottage in Port Stanley. In later years he loved flying drones and impressing his grandchildren with his advanced technological skills. Russ was very active at First St. Andrew’s United Church as well as the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex.

Russ lived a full and rewarding life with many family and friends who will miss him greatly. We take comfort in the wonderful memories we have made with Russ.
