Sandra Dorothy Elzinga Gort went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 31, 2019 in her 81st year, peacefully at LHSC, following a prolonged complex illness. Dearly beloved Mother of Susan Jurjevich, Wendy Hawkins (Angus), Lori Gort Liang (Joseph), Sarah Trenker and John Gort (Dorothy). Predeceased by loving husband Dr. George Gort (SJHC London, Dept. of Psychiatry), newborn grandson John David Trenker, parents Peter and Susan Elzinga, and brothers William and Henry (Sylvia) Elzinga all of Edmonton. Beloved Nana to Matt, Ben, Carley, Sarah, Andrea, Cassandra, Rose, Will, Jacob, Toby and Ashton. Dear sister of Honourable Peter (Pat) Elzinga (former MP, MLA, Deputy Premier and Alberta Cabinet Minister) and Dorothy (Tom) Portas, and sister-in-law to Peggy and Herma Elzinga, all of Alberta. Sandra could grow flowers as few can, loved fine literature, theatre, and Christian music. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and siblings. Special thanks to the extensive medical team who all provided exceptional care to her: Dr. Sharon Koivu and the UH Palliative Care team, Dr. Aze Wilson, Heather Lennox, Dr. Erin Spicer, Dr. Don Farquhar, Dr. Selay Lam, Dr. Douglas Awde, Dr. Melody Qu, Dr. David Silverman, Dr. Larry Allen, Dr. Alejandro Lazo-Langer, Dr. Brent Lanting, her dedicated Family Physician Dr. Kathleen McCully, SJHC Urgent Care and LHSC ER staff, 4th and 8th floor nurses and St. Elizabeth Nurses. Friends may call on Monday June 3rd, 2019 from 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St James St. at Richmond. The funeral service will be conducted at North Park Community Church, 1510 Fanshawe Park Road, London on Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 at 11 am. Private family interment at Siloam Cemetery, London. If desired, remembrances may be made to UH Palliative Care, SJHC Urgent Care or LHSC Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
