Sian Gillian Scott
Sian passed away peacefully on Friday September 9, 2022 after a courageous 10 year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her spirits never waned. She was the beloved wife of the late Bill Scott.
Sian was born in 1939 to Kathleen and David Griffiths in Abergavenny Wales. She is survived by her cherished sister Wendi and her husband Brian Lawson of Penn, Buckinghamshire England. Although an ocean apart, they have always remained very close with weekly phone calls. She has continued to be a faithful and loving aunt for their sons David (Rachel) of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and Richard (Jane) of Bromley, Kent and truly enjoyed being a great aunt to Rhiannon, Amy, Thomas and Alexander, going home for visits to Britain whenever she could.
Sian emigrated to Canada in the 1960s and met and married Bill, the love of her life in 1974. This meant a growing family for her. She became stepmother to Craig (Cathy) Squamish BC and Chricket (Mac) Erin ON. Her role continued to change as she became a kind, gentle and thoughtful “Grams” to the Scotts, Andrew (Ingrid) Squamish BC, Stephen (Alysse) Coscob Connecticut and Jennifer (Clarke) Kelowna BC and the Yules, Maggie (Nicolas) Saint Tropez France, Melissa (Raph) Toronto ON and Christopher (Lauren) Gatineau QC. Sian has ten step-greatgrandchildren scattered throughout Canada and the US.
Wendi and Sian always said that their rural childhood in the lovely part of Monmouthshire Wales was idyllic. The girls were adventurous and sporty. After boarding school Sian trained in London as a chiropodist. Her British qualifications were not recognized in Canada but she was able to continue her work in the medical field at Victoria Hospital in London ON.
Sian enjoyed knitting, golfing at the London Hunt Club and skiing at Devil’s Glen Ski Club, however, her real passions were her beloved cats, cooking, her flower and vegetable gardens and playing tennis. She and Bill enjoyed many fabulous trips around the world for many years until his unexpected death in 1998.
Sian was able to stay in her home throughout her illness only because of the exceptional care provided by Medical Priorities. Heartfelt thanks goes out to Mary Wellman and to caregivers Lidia and Marlene who brought so much joy to Sian’s life for the past five years. Much appreciation to Polly for her never-ending support.
Private graveside service at Woodland Cemetery. Donations may be made in Sian’s memory to the charity of your choice.
