Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the death of Stephen Francis Gallant on Monday January 9th, 2023 at University Hospital. Steve passed peacefully in the company of the love of his life and immediate family members. Steve lived his life with unbridled enthusiasm, a humble dignity, and an immense amount of love. He was 69 years of age.

Beloved husband to Micheline Fish. Caring step-father to Chantalle Fish (Justin Buck) and Mike Fish (Robyn Baker). Known lovingly as “Grandpa Steve” to Chantalle’s son, Benjamin. Proud brother of Gregory Gallant (Tania Van Spyk), Christopher Gallant, and sister-in-law Wendy Gallant. Proud uncle to Aaron Chandler (Satomi) and Proud great uncle to Ren. Stephen is predeceased by his parents, John and Violet Gallant, siblings, Michael Gallant (Wendy) and Vicky Chandler (Dave), and pets, Gracie, Montana, and Diega.

Steve was born in Whitehorse and found a passion for history as his family moved regularly due to his father’s Air Force career. Living for a short time in England and France as a child gave Steve a perspective on history that he would carry with him throughout his life. Steve was a man of almost unfathomable work ethic and became a highly respected individual at the London Police Headquarters where he worked as a custodian for nearly 35 years. Steve had many passions in life including history, patchwork, and sewing; black and white comedies; and music from the 40’s or “real music” as he called it. Beyond these passions though, Steve was known most profoundly as a storyteller. Steve met the love of his life in 2014 and he loved her with a lifetime’s worth of care, gentleness, and devotion. These late years were undoubtedly the happiest years of his life. Steve will be greatly missed by those who loved him, and we are better for having known him.
