Stuart O’Neil

Obituary

O’NEIL, Stuart – Peacefully at University Hospital on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, George Stuart O’Neil of London in his 85th year.

Beloved husband of Jocelyn for almost 60 years. Loving father of Barry and his wife Barbara Westfall, Steve and his wife Colette Léger, and Brian and his wife Ruth Shanahan. Proud Grandpa of Céline and Marcel, and Joshua. Dear brother of Helen (the late Bill Sande), Max (Deirdre) and the late Marjerie. Also, remembered by brother-in-law Skip Charlton and many nieces and nephews.

Stuart built many friendships through his years, but some of the most enduring came with hockey, excelling at high school (Medway), and continuing with his championship team at the University of Guelph. Golf became a favourite summer activity, and he always enjoyed a round with his friends at Sunningdale.

Stu had a wonderful career as science teacher in several of London’s secondary schools, where he was loved and respected by students and educators alike.

Born and raised on the soil of London Township, the farm was in Stu’s blood from the beginning. He was one of the pioneers that championed landowner rights during pipeline construction, pushing for farm land conservation while being supportive of responsible energy development.

Stu and Joce turned a passion into a retirement business, transplanting some of their gorgeous mature trees to beautify many spaces in the London area. He was most at peace walking the farm among those hundreds of spruce and maple that he had carefully nurtured during his memorable and rewarding lifetime.

A small family service will take place in the near future. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or your charity of choice would be appreciated.
