Obituary

Thomas Edward Appleton

Tom Appleton left us to be at peace on May 16, 2025, following his journey with Alzheimer Dementia.  Tom was born in Lindsay, Ontario on February 12, 1949.  He is predeceased by his parents Thomas Henry Appleton and Ellen Fogg.  Also by his brothers Leonard and Ronald Appleton.

Tom was a passionately proud Canadian who served in the army reserve militia during the 1960’s. As an athlete, he played high school football and went on to become a Western University football cheerleader in ’71 and ’72. He excelled at tossing and catching female members of the Western cheerleading team. Tom loved the outdoors; especially Algonquin Park.  He was an avid canoeist, both in the stern and with a solo paddle.  “The canoe, when paddled alone, is a symbol of the independent self-reliance needed by each of us throughout life’s journey” (Tom Appleton)

After more than 50 university credits at Western, he finally settled on being a Chartered Accountant and excelled at that as well.

Tom is sadly missed by his wife Jenipher (Hammell), sons Tom (Sonja) and Andrew (Christa).  Sorely missed by his sister Kathleen Nichols and nephew Ross Nichols.  Also by his seven grandchildren: Oscar, Thomas, Charlotte, George, Catherine, John and Evelyn, as well as niece Laura-May Culver and great nephews Lucas and Atticus Mason.  Tom will be missed by several other nieces and nephews and many friends.

Our family wishes to express our most sincere gratitude to Dr. Andrew Whynot and the marvelous team at Kensington Village Long Term Care. Memorial donations are welcomed for Nature Conservancy Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

Cremation has taken place.  A private celebration of life is to be held at a later date.
