Waldo Stavraky

Obituary

Waldo Stavraky died peacefully after a short illness at Victoria Hospital on April 18th, 2022 at the age of 87. He was born in New Jersey and came at a young age to London Ontario where he studied medicine at UWO. He trained in surgery under Angus McLachlin receiving his fellowship in general surgery in 1963. In London England, he studied plastic surgery at Mt. Vernon Hospital toward his fellowship in Plastic Surgery in 1966.

He leaves his wife of nearly 64 years, Kathleen, his children David (Michele), Tom (Lynda), Sarah (Doug) and five grandchildren, Alex, Michael, Gus, Jonathan and Mia. He was a quiet, reserved man whose loyalty to and affection for his classmates remained strong all his life. He loved and was a highly proficient photographer both on land and under the sea. He loved aeroplanes and even before he learned to fly made many expert models of World War II planes. Later, with his pilot license he visited among other places Grand Turk, Grand Cayman and the Bahamas. He shared his love of Lake Temagami with his children and grandchildren on the family island. He was happiest in his time with his family and undoubtedly would say that his children and grandchildren were his greatest joy and pride. His three children and five grandchildren are his greatest legacy.

At his wishes, there will be no service; at some later date a small private gathering will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum or St. Joseph’s Health Care in London.
